Welcome Back

Welcome Back

thats what my boss was suppose to say on Monday morning instead i found a new level of work load waiting to be finished, seems the interval phone calls to ask if i needed to catch up was for nothing.

During this week i worked on 2 different extensions.

I discovered the following: i work the way my mind thinks which is : deurmekaar the best way to be efficient in the office is to work systematically and apply the same system to everything you work on, this allows you to recall things much easier in the long run.

Hope everyone had a good week.

Summit

This year has reaped some amazing things

When looking back in retrospect, all the things we learn in proffessional practice slowly arrowhead us in a direction to a destination where we eventually imagine ourselves to be in the practice we have chosen.
The adjustment to the 2 individual lines challenge and achievement which are constructed from the many small decisions we make in all situations, can only be done by honesty and hard work.

A Chinese philosopher Jin Tzu once said every peak achievement reached should be made of a mountain of pebble decisions, wise man. I have come to the realisation that its the recognition of the small challenges as the real "life coach" and not neccessarily the big ones.

Life is good

A day in Marocco

Today we had a major deadline

We recently aquired a new client who is some kind of royalty in Switzerland while also being a judicial court judge. So mr Judge wants build a new boutique hotel and we started working on the project.

The difficult part was the fact that moroccan architecture is very curvy, and in this specific case the building was already existing in the shape of a trapezium! square, square, square, square damn... Its a very square building.

So with all the (now hidden) space thats been waisted trying to design a circular interior we may have instigated a habitat for Muamar Kadafi to show up. In the end the design looked good, and we just e-mailed the sketch design plans to the client, so holding thumbs!

I will now get in my car and go have a beer.

Mainstream

First blog in a while.

Things are looking up again at the firm we have 3 new clients.

There are many things i have learned this year, but mainly : I have learned how to apply myself more strategically and efficiently. This is and always will be the acilles heel for many design based professions, in order for us to make ourselves the product we must be able to manage our creative process all the way through to the final design has been signed off.

All successfull architects have a hurricane driving force, the thing seperating the sheep from the wolves is how well this driving force is implemented and in turn how well the aftermath is managed. For now I am focussing on the 1st step how to manage my creative ideas without manipulating the process.

been an eventful time since my last entry,
The firm i'mworking for Schreuder + Schreuder is going through some difficult times, since the start of August my working hours have been decresed by 40% this also applies to the salary i will be earning.

Times are tough many of the major firms are resizing to smaller numbers to stay afloat and working on smaller projects which then directly takes away the lifeline of smaller firms.

For the time being untill our 8th of Aug submission i will be hanging tight, i will however be starting to look for a new job after this

Hi

Was an eventful week, did alot of photography on completed projects, to use as entrie in Architectural competitions, which is the best marketing tool any architect could ask for.

The secret to photography of architecture is not to line up the lines or get the photo symmetrical enough, but rather to indicate how that space would feel if you were really standing there, if that makes any sense.

To do this you try and get a as much of the space into one frame and then start focussing on the individual areas that makes this house/intrior so amazing to look at as a whole.
